
In most states, if an auto repair facility and an insurance company do not agree on the scope or cost of repairs after a motor vehicle accident, the insured or claimant has the right to request an appraisal. This process is meant to help resolve the dispute in a fair and equitable way.
Not all states regulate this process; however, Rhode Island does with 27-10.4-1. Motor vehicle appraisal provision. This legislation dictates process, timeframes, and even who pays the appraisal fees.
